About Alfred Sisley |
Sisley, Alfred (1839-1899), French landscape painter, born in Paris of English parents. Sisley was a founder of the impressionist school of painting (See Impressionism). Although his work attracted little attention in his lifetime, its importance has since been recognized. Sisley's idyllic paintings, with their soft, harmonious colors, are mainly of scenes near Paris.
